Open Houses Before a Brawl

Here's what you should know to start Sept. 1 in Northeast Cobb.

1. Today’s weather will be a lot like Wednesday’s, the National Weather Service says. It will be mostly sunny and humid with a high of about 90, no rain, little wind and an overnight low around 66.

2. It’s open-house night at and high schools. Both events start at 6:30, and in both cases, parents will get to see the results of summer construction in addition to meeting their children’s fall teachers. Northeast Cobb Patch plans to be at Sprayberry, so say hello if you see our reporter.

3. Friday will bring a huge Northeast Cobb showdown when Sprayberry’s football team travels up the road to Lassiter for the Backyard Brawl, but there’s also plenty to see in high school sports today. In varsity volleyball, Lassiter hits the road to , and Sprayberry travels to Woodstock High to , starting at 5 p.m. In varsity softball, plays host to North Paulding at 5:30 , and Lassiter has a at 5:55.

4. Congratulations to East Cobb mom , who won the Genesis Today Mommy Makeover Contest with 52.25 percent of the online votes, edging Kathi Launius of California, who got 45.56 percent in the three-mom race. Shetter gets a $5,000 makeover package. The finalists were gracious after the polls closed. “Congratulations Debbie. Enjoy. Get rest and relaxation. You do deserve it as do many moms out there who were not in this contest,” Launius wrote on the Genesis Today Facebook page. Shetter thanked her and added, “I feel so honored to have been chosen as a finalist along with you and Brittany (Duncan). You, Kathi, are an amazing mom.”

5. The regional Transportation SPLOST project list is out there for public comment before being finalized Oct. 13, and a forum Wednesday on the 1 percent sales tax and the projects it would finance showed widespread disapproval within Cobb County, the Marietta Daily Journal reports. The from the Cumberland area to MARTA's Midtown Arts station was a particular target.
