Memorial Day Events

Gather around the water cooler to discuss what's happening in and around our community today, May 30.

1. Memorial Day, which is observed on the last Monday of May, commemorates the men and women who died while in the military service. In observance of the holiday, many people visit veteran memorials, and volunteers often place American flags on each veteran grave site at national cemeteries. A national moment of remembrance takes place at 3:00 p.m.

2. The National Memorial Day Association of Georgia and The Avenue of Flags will present their 63rd annual Memorial Day ceremony at noon today in the Marietta National Cemetery, 500 Washington Ave. Maj. Gen. Raymond V. Mason, current deputy chief of staff for the U.S. Army at Fort McPherson, will serve as guest speaker. This is a free event.

3. Remember... since it is Memorial Day, all city and county government offices are closed.
