Kennesaw resident, and Marietta landscaper, Troy Hickman makes a point of visiting the dog park at least twice a week so he and his three dogs Sierra, Gemma and Tibby can enjoy the great outdoors.
“It’s such a great park. The dogs get to socialize freely with other pets, and I get to meet a few new people myself,” said Hickman.
An area resident for four years, Hickman moved to Kennesaw from Vallejo, California due to his mother's death.
“When my mother passed away, I decided to move closer to my family who live in Kennesaw and Marietta," he said. “I could have moved anywhere in Georgia, but I chose this area because it’s so quiet and peaceful here. It’s a lot different from Vallejo, where everyone is always in a hurry.”
Hickman said that in Vallejo there weren’t dog parks. He didn’t even own a dog until he came to Kennesaw. “Now I have three; Tibby and Gemma are full-blooded English Mastiffs, and Sierra is a German Shepherd. I just love my dogs.”
Before moving to Georgia, Hickman had earned his real estate license for California, but decided to work for his brother's Marietta handyman business, The Handyman of Georgia, LLC, instead of pursuing a real estate career.
“With the economy the way it is now, I’m putting the real estate business on the back burner for awhile. My brother has been in business since 1985, and I enjoy working on various projects with him," he said.
Hickman and his dogs are "here to stay." They are looking forward to many more years of visiting the Sweat Mountain dog park.
Be sure to visit the leash-free dog park to spend time outdoors in a friendly environment. Who knows, you could be our next Sweat Mountain Dog Park “citizen of the week."
