Meet Mary Duguay and Her 'Grand Dogs'

Every week Northeast Cobb Patch interviews neighbors and their pooches at the dog park.

Despite the clouds and intermittent rain, Mary Duguay, a 40-year resident of Northeast Cobb, was out with her “grand dogs” enjoying a peaceful morning at the dog park on Wednesday.

“When my son is out of town, I take care of his dogs, Lucy and Runway. We love coming out to the dog park. They get so excited when I just mention the word park," said Duguay.

Originally hailing from Wisconsin, Duguay moved to Georgia some 40 years ago for a job offer. During that time, she met her future husband Jim Duguay. The two have been happily living in Northeast Cobb ever since.

“We’re both retired now but my husband worked for Lockheed for many years and, before I retired, I was working for Mercedes Benz Credit," she said.

Being retired hasn’t slowed this couple down in the least. Mr. and Mrs. Duguay are avid triathletes and travel the U.S. several times a year participating in different events.

“We were in Vermont just a week before the hurricane hit,” said Dugay. “I’m just grateful we weren’t still there when it all happened.”

Mr. Duguay has also recently qualified for next year’s Team USA triathlon, which Mrs. Duguay is hopeful of qualifying for as well.

Wherever the Duguays travel, Mrs. Duguay said there’s no place better than coming home to Northeast Cobb.

“Living here reminds me a lot my hometown in Wisconsin. We’ve made some great friends here. It’s a good place to raise a family,” said Duguay. “There are a lot of good schools, friendly people, and you’re close enough to Atlanta to enjoy it but you don’t have to live there.”

Be sure to visit the leash-free dog park to spend time outdoors in a friendly environment. Who knows, you could be our next Sweat Mountain Dog Park “citizen of the week."
