Meet Kris Harrelson and Pica

Every week Northeast Cobb Patch interviews neighbors and their pooches at the dog park.

After a two year absence, Kris Harrelson and his 10-year-old hound/boxer mixed canine buddy Pica were out early Wednesday morning to enjoy a beautiful fall day at the leash-free dog park.

Harrelson, a resident of Northeast Cobb for the past five years, was a regular at the park before the birth of his daughter two years ago, who in his words, “has been a handful to take care of."

“Our daughter is in preschool now,” said Harrelson. “I have a little free time to bring Pica back to the park for some fun and exercise.”

Originally from Savannah, Harrelson moved to Athens, G.A. several years ago where he earned a degree at the .

Harrelson worked in the financial investment field for four years, but eventually enrolled in the and became a professional hair stylist.

“I currently work at which is actually located in Decatur. It’s quite a commute from here, but it’s worth it to be able to live in this area,” he said.

Harrelson and his wife decided to move to Northeast Cobb partly due to his wife’s employment at a local chemical company and the excellent schools.

“Northeast Cobb has a real neighborhood feel to it,” said Harrelson. “Add that to the low crime rate and a great school system, and that’s why we love it here.”

Be sure to visit the leash-free dog park to spend time outdoors in a friendly environment. Who knows, you could be our next Sweat Mountain Dog Park “citizen of the week."
