Meet Geoffrey Hobbs and Two of His Closest Friends

Every week Northeast Cobb Patch interviews neighbors and their pooches at the dog park.

Geoffrey Hobbs, a retail salesman and resident of Northeast Cobb since 1987, enjoys visiting the leash-free dog park several times a week to spend quality time with his two dogs, Sunny and Lucy.

Born in New York City, and growing up in Boston, Hobbs has lived and worked in several states across the U.S., including Tennessee and Miami, Florida, where he was a news reporter and general feature writer.

“I did the same kind of thing Patch is doing,” said Hobbs. “Talking to the man on the street and interviewing local business owners. Back then we didn’t have the Internet. We still relied on the black and white printed word. It’s interesting how times have changed.”

In between playing fetch with Sunny and Lucy, Hobbs mentioned that what originally brought him and his wife to Northeast Cobb, was a “for sale” ad on a house not too far from Sweat Mountain.

“We decided to move to a place with a more temperate climate. We saw the ad, liked the house, and since Georgia is about halfway between Miami and Boston, we decided to move here," he said.

Some of the aspects Hobbs likes most about living in Northeast Cobb are the excellent public schools, the availability of a variety of social services, and the safety of the area due to the diligence of the local police.

“If there’s anything I would change about Northeast Cobb, it would be to preserve a few more park areas before more development takes over. Other than that, there’s nothing else I can think of that I would make different. I guess that in itself kind of says it all.”

Be sure to visit the leash-free dog park to spend time outdoors in a friendly environment. Who knows, you could be our next Sweat Mountain Dog Park “citizen of the week."
