Lassiter Student Named Eagle Scout

Taylor Alfaro of Boy Scout Troop 714 will be presented with the Boy Scouts’ highest rank, Eagle Scout, at a special Court of Honor ceremony on June 10 at in Northeast Cobb.

Taylor, the son of Cathy Moland-Alfaro and Edgar Alfaro, began his Scouting career as a Cub Scout in 2001 with Pack 417 at . During that time, he earned several awards and Cub Scouts’ highest award, the Arrow of Light.

He crossed over to Boy Scout Troop 714 in 2006. On his road to Eagle Scout, Taylor hiked and/or backpacked 168 miles, camped almost 100 nights and accumulated almost 80 hours of community service.

He has served his troop as an Assistant Patrol Leader, Scribe, Historian, Den Leader and Troop Guide. He was elected by his fellow Scouts to the Order of the Arrow, a national Boy Scout honor society. He has earned over 21 merit badges.

For his Eagle Scout project, Taylor planned, constructed and installed a split rail fence and landscaping around a generator at . According to Troop 714 Scoutmaster, Ferrell Moultrie, Taylor exemplifies what it is to be a Scout and a leader. 

In addition to Scouting, Taylor who is a rising Senior at , is active in Wrestling, Jijitsu, Muay Thai and other Mixed Martial Arts. He attends .

Taylor joins an elite group of young men who have earned the Eagle rank. The first Eagle was awarded in 1912 and less than four percent of Scouts ever achieve Scouting's highest honor. This elite brotherhood includes many famous people from astronauts to presidents, business leaders to military generals.

The Boy Scouts of America is one of the nation's largest and most prominent values-based organizations. Its programs are designed to build character and leadership capabilities, teach principles of active citizenship and encourage personal fitness.
