Here's what you should know to start Sept. 7 in Northeast Cobb.

1. No weather warnings or watches and not much warmth ahead for Northeast Cobb today, according to the National Weather Service. Patchy fog and a slight chance of lingering rain will fade away by 8 a.m., leaving a mostly cloudy, breezy day with a high that might not reach 70 degrees. The overnight low will be around 57.

2. All the rain dumped by Tropical Storm Lee makes today’s Watershed Stewardship Program rain garden workday at the Cobb County Water Quality Lab, 662 S. Cobb Dr., particularly timely. The point of a rain garden is to limit storm runoff while adding an interesting, attractive landscape feature. The workday runs from 9 to 11 a.m. It should be more fun than the Cobb County Citizens Oversight Committee meeting at 9 at 100 Cherokee St., the Board of Tax Assessors meeting at 10 at 736 Whitlock Ave. or the county Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals meeting at 6:30 p.m. back at 100 Cherokee St.

3. The at 3332 Sandy Plains Rd. in Northeast Cobb holds a History Corner program at 10 a.m. on the Brooklyn Bridge. It’s a free chance to hear the story of what was called the Eighth Wonder of the World when it first soared above a 19th-century New York City that didn’t yet feature skyscrapers.

4. A Northeast Cobb softball doubleheader headlines the high school sports scene today. The junior varsity and varsity teams will travel down the road to , where the will start at 4:30 p.m. and the about 5:55. The Lady Longhorns have been perfect against their Northeast Cobb and East Cobb varsity neighbors this season, beating , and Walton.

5. Sen. Judson Hill held a town-hall meeting on the TSPLOST proposals Tuesday night at , and Northeast Cobb Patch was there. Come back later today for video from the event. As the Marietta Daily Journal reports, the projects planned for the 10-year, 1-cent sales tax didn’t find many friends at the meeting.
