Get Out to Teachers' Book Signing

Essential Cobb happenings for the weekend:

1. A book signing featuring Sophie May and the Shoe-Untying Fairy will be held on Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. at Uppity’s, 1205 Johnson Ferry Rd., Suite 103.

Written by East Cobb teachers Rosalind Bunn and Kathy Howard, Sophie May and the Shoe-Untying Fairy is a picture book for ages 4 to 7 that combines fantasy and a skill lesson.

Bunn teaches fifth grade at East Side Elementary. Howard teaches kindergarten at Sope Creek Elementary. The books will be carried in local shops, including The School Box.

2. Sample the culinary talents of restaurants during the last days of Cobb Restaurant Week, which ends Saturday. Each restaurant is offering a three-course menu for $20.

3. Every Saturday in September admission is free at the Marietta Museum of History. The museum houses four galleries featuring collections from Local History, Home Life and the Military. Unique to the museum is the Civil War collection, featuring the history of the Georgia Military Institute, the story of the only slave buried in the Marietta Confederate Cemetery and the Union plot to steal the Confederate locomotive called The General. Make a day out of the visit to enjoy the museum, shopping and great restaurants of Marietta Square. Saturday free admission, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Marietta Museum of History, 1 Depot St., Suite 200. 4. Free ice cream sundae anyone? Guests enjoy a historic house tour and free ice cream sundae in the great kitchen at the Third Sundae at Barrington Hall. Tours are at 1, 2 and 3 p.m. The cost is $8 for adults and $6 for ages 6 to 12. 535 Barrington Dr., Roswell. For more information, call 770-640-3855.
