Keep Marietta Beautiful Scavenger Hunt

Looking for something new to do in Marietta? Keep Marietta Beautiful has a way to have family fun, see the sites of Marietta and spend time outside—geocaching.

On the scavenger hunt, use your global positioning system-equipped smart phone or device to search for 10 geocaches in the city's parks and historical sites.

All hidden caches are outside and can be searched for at any time. Collect cards from all the hidden locations and present them for a prize bag weekdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at or weekends at .

Friday Events

Special Olympics Georgia State Indoor Winter Games. Special Olympics athletes from around the state head to Cobb County for the Indoor Winter Games Friday through Sunday. More than 1500 athletes and 100 Unified Partners will compete in: artistic gymnastics, bowling, floor hockey, basketball, power lifting and roller-skating with over 500 coaches to guide them. Opening ceremony Friday, 7:30 p.m., at the located at 548 South Marietta Parkway in Marietta. Free.

Saturday Events

Pope Band Recycling Day. Recycle and do something good for the community and Pope Band.  9 a.m.-4 p.m. Paint, metal, electronics and documents accepted. Donations requested: $10 minimum. TVs and CRTs: $15. Paint, up to 10 gallons: $15. Paper: $5 per file storage box. Pick up service available. is located at 3001 Hembree Road in Marietta. Trees and Shrubs Workshop. The Green Thumb Gardening Series is presented by Marietta Council of Garden Clubs. Workshop registration is at 8:30 a.m.  Presentations: 9-11 a.m. Lunch and a private tour of a local garden or nursery included. Sunday Events

Green Day Recycling. Recycle computer equipment, batteries, and metal.  Printer toner and cartridges exchanged for coupons up to $10 from Cartridge World of Roswell. The cost is documents: $4/box and TVs: $10. Sunday 9 a.m.-2 p.m. is located at 1415 Old Canton Road in Marietta. For more information, call Denise at 770-973-3533.

2012 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship. All boys and girls ages 10-14 are invited to participate in the local level of competition for the 2012 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship. The local competition will be held on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. in the Carroll Center at located at 4905 Roswell Road in Marietta.

The event is sponsored annually with winners progressing through local, district and state competitions. International champions are announced by the Knights of Columbus International headquarters based on scores from the state-level competitions. 

All boys and girls 10 to 14 years old are eligible to participate and will compete in their respective age divisions. Participants are required to furnish proof of age and written parental consent. For information, contact Steve Early at 770-565-5760.
