Get Out to Hear Kayla Taylor Jazz

It's Thursday, the weekend is around the corner, and you have no idea what to do. At Northeast Cobb Patch, we have compiled the best bets for a great weekend.

Essential Northeast Cobb and area happenings for the weekend:

1. hosts a wonderful evening of jazz standards and blues Thursday night from the Kayla Taylor Jazz Trio. The band features Kayla Taylor, vocals; Steve Moore, guitar; and Randy Hunter, tenor sax.

The trio will be playing all your vintage jazz favorites from the 30s-50s (Sinatra, Dean Martin, Julie London, Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James, and more.) Enjoy cocktails after work or stay for the entire evening. A full menu is served in the lounge.

No Cover Charge. Thursday, 6:30 p.m is located at 255 Village Pkwy NE in East Cobb.

2. Ann Hite novel, Ghost On Black Mountain, published by Gallery Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, on Saturday at 2 p.m. Come on out to , 50 Barrett Pkwy, and tell her your ghost story.

3. presents its annual on Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. There are over 50 colleges and universities confirmed.

There will be representation from technical colleges, junior colleges, HBCU's and majority colleges in attendance. This event is open to everyone in the community.

4. Cobb County Master Gardeners Lunch and Learn: “Gardening for Butterflies” presented by Debra Stockton. Learn traditional methods as well as some unconventional techniques that will also attract some other garden lovelies. Bring your lunch. Friday, 12-1 p.m. The Water Quality Lab located at the , 662 South Cobb Drive, Marietta. More information, call 770-528-4070.

5. Love the Boxer dog breed? Boxerstock 2011 is an all-day music festival benefiting Atlanta Boxer Rescue. There will be vendors, a concession stand, canine demonstrations, a silent auction and activities for the whole family. Adults $8. Children (12 and under) $5. Volunteers will also provide microchipping  $25/dog. Be sure to bring proof of ownership and immunization records to get microchipped. 12-6 p.m. , 2245 Callaway Road, Marietta.
