Find Some Warmth with Wild Things

Here's what you should know to start Sept. 8 in Northeast Cobb.

1. It’s another chilly, overcast day for Northeast Cobb, according to the National Weather Service. It will be cloudy and breezy with a high of about 72 and an overnight low around 57.

2. The at the East Cobb Library opens today and runs through Oct. 14. An opening reception at the library at 6 p.m. will celebrate the children’s illustrator and creator of such books as Where the Wild Things Are.

3. The Cobb County Planning Commission is holding a zoning hearing this morning at 9 in the boardroom at 100 Cherokee St. off Marietta Square. Several Northeast Cobb cases are on the agenda: East Bluff Holding Co.’s request for rezoning to build a subdivision of single-family homes on Bells Ferry Road south of Laura Lake Road; Amin Lalani’s rezoning request to add to the convenience store and gas station at Trickum and Shallowford roads; the twice-held rezoning request from Pulte Homes to build a subdivision on Shaw Road north of Piedmont Road; and plans for property at Canton and Blackwell roads.

4. It’s a packed day on the high school sports schedule. In varsity Region 5-AAAA softball, plays at at 5:30 p.m., and plays at at 5:30. In Region 5-AAAAA softball, travels to at 5:55. In varsity volleyball, Kell plays at the at 5 p.m., and Lassiter is at at 5, while Sprayberry plays host to at 6.

5. Coming up later today on Northeast Cobb Patch, meet Mary Duguay and her “grand dogs” in the Dog Park Chronicles at 9 a.m., and get to know painter Debbi Brooks in debut of a column focusing on the arts and entertainment in Northeast Cobb.
