Deadline for Homestead Exemption Applications

Meet us around the water cooler to discuss hot topics in Northeast Cobb today, March 31.

1. Are you playing an April Fools' joke on anyone? If so, please tell us in the Comment Box below.

When I was 16 I called my mother on April Fools' Day from a friends house and said that I was pregnant. I thought it was funny. My parents did not, lol. Whew! It was not pretty.

2. The Tax Commissioner's office mails Homestead Exemption applications around the end of January to homeowners on record who purchased or transferred property the previous year. If you did not receive an application you can print one by clicking here, or call 770-528-8600 to request one. You can apply for exemptions year-round by mail or in person; however, you must apply by today to receive the exemption for that tax year.  Applications not filed by April 1 constitute a waiver of the exemption for that year. Your closing attorney does not apply for you.

3. If you have a fenced yard and a loving heart, you want to consider adopting Pebbles, an Australian Cattle Dog (Blue Heeler)/Great Dane mix. Pebbles was born 12/7/09. See her picture with this article. She is on the way to being housebroken, but will need somebody that has time to complete that chore. There was a DNA test done to determine her breed. When she is full grown her weight will be between 65-100 lbs. She is extremely shy of new people and things.  A fenced yard would be best for her. To visit Pebbles, contact the Humane Society of Cobb County 770-428-9882 or e-mail humanecobb@aol.com.

4. If you're unfamiliar with Unity North Church, they have some interesting programs. Fridays they have movie night that begins at 6:45 p.m. with a pizza and salad dinner, complimentary movie, and lively discussion afterwards.
