Citizens of the Week

Every week Northeast Cobb Patch interviews neighbors and their pooches at the dog park.

Charlie Freed, a 24 year resident of Northeast Cobb and retired GE employee, visits the Sweat Mountain leash-free dog park on a regular basis.

Says Freed, “This is the best leash-free dog park anywhere in Cobb County. Most of the other parks have few if any trees and, this park is full of them. It would be hard to stay outside for any length of time in the other parks but, this one stays pretty comfortable with all the shade.”

That’s good news for Freed’s dog, Penny, who is a golden retriever with lots of energy to burn.

Freed moved from Pennsylvania to the Northeast Cobb area in 1987 for his job, and has loved the friendly people and variety of activities in the area ever since.

“Living here let’s you be close enough to downtown Atlanta so it’s easy to get to but, you don’t have to deal with all the traffic that’s so prevalent in that area.”

Eleana Courson, a Northeast Cobb homemaker, was also enjoying some time outdoors with her dog, Raiden, a toy Australian Shepherd.

“I love coming to the park with Raiden.” says Courson. “We visit the dog park several times a week and also walk the trails here.”

Courson, originally from Venezuela, moved to Northeast Cobb in 1988 with her husband who grew up in the area.

“I feel very comfortable coming to this park because it is so well patrolled and watched after by the local police. You can also meet some really nice people who bring their dogs out regularly to the park too,” said Courson.

Courson went on to say that she likes living in Northeast Cobb because of the friendly people who live and work here.

Added Courson, “The people aren’t pretentious in this part of town. Most residents are very genuine and are just good people.”

Be sure to visit the leash-free dog park next time you want to spend some time outdoors in a friendly environment. Who knows, you could be our next Sweat Mountain Dog Park “citizen of the week."
