Blue Skies and a Royal Wedding

The weekend promises to be beautiful. There's plenty to do, and you might want to turn on the telly.

1)  Look at what a difference a big ole’ storm will make. It’s going to be sunny today with a high only reaching 75, according to the National Weather Service.

Tonight should be clear with a low of 46…..brrrrrrrr. The rest of the weekend promises to be pretty as well.

2)  Come check out the local talent tonight and Saturday at 7 p.m. for Lassiter High’s classic, “Cinderella: The Enchanted Edition.” Prices are $5 to $7, and the performance is at 2600 Shallowford Rd.

Speaking of theater at Lassiter, the planned major renovation project at Lassiter High School, including a new theater, faced some unexpected drama Thursday night when the $15 million construction contract with Womack, Lewis and Smith of Cartersville went before the Cobb County Board of Education. The SPLOST III project is $2 million over the budget the board set for the project: $1 million from an increase in the size of the theater being built from 750 seats to 1,000 seats, a cost the board accepted when it approved the increased capacity in August to provide an alternative to McEachern for multischool events such as the annual band festival; and $1 million from increased material costs. Board Chairwoman Alison Bartlett and North Cobb member Kathleen Angelucci spoke against the expanded theater and the extra costs, which will come out of undesignated classroom funds under SPLOST III. The board wound up approving the contract 4-3, with Bartlett, Angelucci and Smyrna board member Tim Stultz opposed.

3)  I could not resist this one.

"Hoosier Daddy," the band, will be playing at noon Saturday at Sweet P's Art Festival at 1795 Johnson Ferry Rd, Marietta. More than 100 artists and crafters, live music, food, raffles and a silent auction. Call 770-977-7473 for more information.

4)  Heading out for the weekend, or just want to get across town. The cheapest gas in town Thursday was $3.67 at the RaceTrac at 2337 Canton Road and Westerly Way.

5)  And last, but certainly not least, it’s the big day for Prince William and Lady Kate. It has nothing to do with Northeast Cobb....I'll give you that. And some of you may be sick of it already, but for a little girl (who's not so little anymore) who remembers getting up in the middle of the night to watch Diana and Prince Charles get married, it’ll be a treat.
