'Ax the Tax' Signs Disappear Throughout County

Brett Bittner of the Cobb County Taxpayers Association said many of the signs are disappearing from people's front yards.

Brett Bittner of Cobb County Taxpayers Association usually encourages anti-SPLOST supporters in his call to action e-mails to “tell Cobb County NO.” However, in his Monday night e-mail, he told them to pull up their rapidly disappearing signs from their yards, before someone else does, and take them to their nearest polling locations.

The bright red Ax the Tax signs that have decorated the county, including Northeast Cobb, are disappearing from roadsides and front yards, Bittner wrote in the e-mail. “Since we've seen numerous signs disappear for one reason or another, our plan tomorrow is to take all of the signs we have in our yards and on our properties and place them near our polling places.”

Bittner said that CCTA has received reports from all over the county about signs disappearing.

He said he is most concerned about those that have disappeared from private properties in Acworth, Northeast Cobb and East Cobb.

Signs placed as late as 1 a.m. today have disappeared, Bittner stated in an e-mail.

He said the sign removal does not seem to be from county or city personnel for improper placement because the sign stands are being left behind.

Robert Quigley, the director of communications for the county, said code enforcement officers have not removed any improperly placed signs since Friday.

“I've personally replaced more than 20 ‘private property signs’ in the last 10 days. We've followed up with the County to reclaim any taken by County workers that may have been in the right of way (improperly placed),” Bittner said in his e-mail.
