Hello, I'm <a href="https://electshelia.com/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Shelia Edwards</a>, but please call me Shelia E. 
 
I'm running to serve as Chairperson of Cobb County's government with a focus on transparency, accountability, fiscal responsibility, and addressing the real issues that affect you and your families’ quality of life. I'm committed to representing the interests and needs of all residents of Cobb and working tirelessly to make our community a better place for everyone. 
 
Living in Cobb for over 30 years has provided me a firsthand understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities facing our county. After my family and I relocated to Cobb in the 1990's, I became deeply involved in our vibrant county, first living in Marietta, and later building my current home in Mableton. These experiences fuel my commitment to making Cobb an even better place to live, work, and thrive. Through my involvement in Cobb, I've earned the trust of our community, emerging as a steadfast advocate for issues affecting our families - from backing sustainable development and opposing efforts to turn our area into a waste dump to advocating for affordable housing, improved infrastructure, and community safety. My involvement has earned me the trust of our community. My commitment and advocacy for our community's well-being have only grown stronger over time. 
 
As I campaign to become the next <a href="https://electshelia.com/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Chairperson for Cobb County</a>, I'm driven by a sincere desire to address the challenges we face, including the heavy threat of triple taxation being imposed by current Cobb office holders who have failed to roll back the millage, attempted to impose a sewer tax, and are advocating for a 30 year transportation tax (totaling $14 billion dollars). Like you, I've witnessed the turmoil within county leadership and recognize the urgent need for change. The citizens of Cobb deserve leadership they can trust, leadership that puts their needs and concerns first, and leadership that will tighten the county's belt first before asking citizens to do more. That's the commitment I bring to the table as your next Chair.

Local hunger relief group provides snacks for students at Marietta Title 1 schools 

PORCH-Marietta, an all-volunteer nonprofit dedicated to reducing food insecurity, announces its upcoming fundraiser in partnership with Kendra Scott Jewelry. The event is scheduled for Sunday, May 5 from 3-5PM at Kendra Scott Jewelry at The Avenue East Cobb, in time for Mother’s Day and graduation shopping. 
The store will donate 20% of its proceeds to PORCH-Marietta to support their PORCH for Schools program. Through this initiative, PORCH provides healthy snacks for students in local Title 1 schools so they can stay fueled up and ready to learn all day. Hungry students can’t focus on learning, and teachers shouldn’t have to pay for students’ snacks themselves. 
“Every customer who mentions PORCH on 5/5 will make a positive impact on the lives of local students,” said Liz Platner, chapter leader of PORCH-Marietta. “We had funds to support 9 Cobb County and Marietta City schools in January and we hope to raise enough money to provide for these schools again next semester. Together, we can make a significant difference towards reducing food insecurity in our neighborhood." 
Fair Oaks Elementary teacher Carmen Meek commented, “Most of my students are newcomers to this country. These students have very little when they come, and the parents must work very hard to provide them with the things they need. As a teacher it is a blessing to know that the PORCH organization has been so generous, sending healthy and delicious snacks to my students. My students are learning and growing which can make for a long day at school. Many times they need that extra snack to finish their day. They look forward to receiving the snacks. I know their families appreciate it.”
PORCH Communities was started in 2011 in Chapel Hill, and there are now over 550 neighborhoods in 10 states serving their local communities. PORCH chapters have gathered and distributed more than $12.5 million worth of food to neighbors in need. The PORCH-Marietta chapter was founded in February 2022. 
Contributing non-perishable food to 6 local food pantries on a monthly basis is the flagship program of PORCH-Marietta. To date, PORCH-Marietta has donated over 64,000 pounds of food to these pantries. They collect food via monthly neighborhood food drives, based on customized wish lists from the pantries. Neighbors put the requested groceries out on their porch and volunteers pick it up and deliver it to the pantries. Currently there are 50 Marietta neighborhoods participating.
