Northeast Cobb resident Daniel Wolfson is a National Merit Scholar.
The Wheeler High senior has won a $2,500 college scholarship, the National Merit Scholarship Corp. is announcing today.
Wolfson is expected to be one of Wheeler's co-valedictorians and plans to attend Stanford University in the fall. He is aiming for a medical career, according to the announcement.
He is one of seven students at Cobb County public high schools who are part of the latest group of 2,500 National Merit Scholars named across the country. All seven are at Wheeler, Walton or Campbell.
All of today’s winners are getting one-time $2,500 awards, usually financed by National Merit itself.
About 1,000 winners of corporate-sponsored scholarships were announced April 18, although none of those winners lives in Northeast Cobb. Two waves of college-sponsored merit scholarships are still to come.
In the end, about 8,300 of 15,000 finalists across the country will be named National Merit Scholars and receive scholarships.
