Lassiter Romps to Reach Lacrosse Final
The Trojans will host Milton in the AAAAA championship; meanwhile, Pope's baseball and lacrosse teams play today to stay alive in the GHSA playoffs.
Lassiter will host the Georgia High School Association AAAAA boys lacrosse championship game Saturday after crushing Alpharetta, 14-4, at The Frank on Tuesday night.
The Trojans fell behind 2-0 but bounced back to score seven consecutive goals on the way to leading 5-2 after the first quarter and 7-3 at halftime, Lassiter Athletics reported on Twitter.
Lassiter, the top seed from Area 2, added to the lead 37 seconds into the second half and shut out Alpharetta, Area 3’s No. 1 seed, in the third quarter for a 10-3 lead going into the fourth.
Because Milton, the No. 2 seed from Area 3, beat Etowah, 12-3, in the other semifinal, the championship will be at Lassiter on Saturday.
In rolling through the first three rounds of the GHSA playoffs, the Trojans have outscored Northview, East Coweta and Alpharetta by a combined 40-9.
Milton beat Walton, 9-8, at home, then went on the road to top Peachtree Ridge, 8-3, and Etowah to reach the title match.
In the A-AAAA boys tournament, Pope plays in the semifinals at Decatur tonight at 7:30, hoping to earn a spot in Saturday’s championship at Westminster or Lambert.
Also today, Pope’s baseball team faces a decisive Game 3 in its best-of-three series in the AAAA playoffs at Loganville. The Greyhounds split a pair of games Tuesday, winning the opener 5-2 but falling 3-2 in the second game.
Possible early draft pick and Georgia recruit Duane Underwood got the win pitching for Pope in Game 1, and Nate Lowe had the big hit with a two-run homer in the first inning, Score Atlanta reported.
Today’s game at Loganville will start at 5:30 p.m.
