Keheley Principal Named a Classroom 'Hero'
Liz Jackson will be recognized during Sunday's Falcons game at the Georgia Dome.
Keheley Elementary School announced Monday that Principal Liz Jackson was recently named one of this year’s winners of the Symetra Heroes in the Classroom Award.
“The Heroes in the Classroom Award program is sponsored by Symetra in partnership with the National Football League’s Atlanta Falcons,” said Tucker Smith, assistant principal. “We intend to surprise Ms. Jackson with the award presentation on Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at 1 p.m. during a pep rally in Keheley’s gym, with all students in attendance.”
As part of the award the school will receive a $1,000 donation. Jackson will also receive two tickets to Sunday's Atlanta Falcons game against the New York Giants. The presentation of the check and the tickets will feature Atlanta Falcons cheerleaders, team mascot Freddie the Falcon, Atlanta Falcons player Shann Schillinger, and a representative of SunTrust, which is also a partner in the program.
In addition, Ms. Jackson will be honored during a live, on-field presentation at the Atlanta Falcons game against the New York Giants. “Ms. Jackson was nominated for the Heroes in the Classroom Award by physical education teacher Stephanie Lawson,” Smith said. “Symetra credited the strong nomination written by Ms. Lawson as the key factor in selecting Ms. Jackson for the award.”
The Atlanta Falcons and Symetra first teamed up to sponsor Symetra Heroes in the Classroom in 2010. The community program recognizes Georgia teachers for outstanding leadership and instructional skills. The winners are selected based on their ability to make a real difference in students' lives; to go above and beyond in their day-to-day responsibilities; and to help students build life skills.
