First Friday Art Walk

These fun events may tempt you to leave the air conditioning and venture outside.

 

1. Dixie Highway 90-Mile Yard Sale

When/Where:  Friday and Saturday, 7 a.m. - dusk, Sunday 8 a.m. - dusk. Marietta to Ringgold. 

Why go: Treasure hunters, history lovers, and bargain hounds can celebrate the revitalization of the Dixie Highway, a.k.a Old Hwy 41. The Georgia Dixie Highway Association organizes the event to promote communities along the route.

Price: Free. Map and directions on the Dixie Highway 90-Mile Yard Sale website.

2. First Friday Art Walk

When/Where: Friday, 5 p.m. - 9 p.m. Historic Marietta Square and beyond.

Why go: Local artists sell their works in and near businesses. Enjoy the nurturing energy of, Marietta resident, Kyrstal Phoenixx's paintings in front of Fit For a Queen Antiques, 145 Church St. Also see juried exhibition inside Dupre's Antique Market, 17 Whitlock Ave. The Historic Marietta Trolley will provide free shuttle service for the event.

Price: Free. Maps at participating merchants.

3. Barry Richman

When/Where: Friday, 10 p.m. Niks Place, 645 Whitlock Ave, Marietta.

Why go: Richman is a master guitarist with a laid-back stage presence. Good food, tasty beverages and great music make it easy to let go of the work week.

Price: No music cover charge.

4. One Last Visit with the "Old" Wheeler 

When/Where: Saturday, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Wheeler High School,  375 Holt Road, Marietta.

Why go: The community is invited to an open house at the "old" part of WHS.  The original buildings constructed in 1965 are being torn down this summer to build a larger core building. It is planned to have volunteer photographers and videographers on site to capture the event and interview attendees. Bring your high school stories.

Price: Free.

5. Improv Monster 

When/Where: Saturday, 8 p.m. Events @ 590, 590 Mimosa Blvd, Roswell.

Why go: Laughter is medicine. Be there opening night of Groupmind Productions' presentation of a comedy show that uses true stories from audience members (or special guests) as source for character-driven storytelling. Show runs Saturdays until further notice.

Price: $15.
