Couple Stole $88K from Noonday Baptist Church

Cobb County police have arrested an Adairsville couple on charges of stealing more than $88,000 from Noonday Baptist Church in Northeast Cobb.

An Adairsville couple has been jailed on theft charges after they allegedly stole more than $88,000 from Noonday Baptist Church, Channel 2 Action News reports.

James Earnest Street, 51, and Susan Marie Summers, 50, took the money between Dec. 17 and Sept. 7, according to an arrest warrant.

Summers, an employee of the church, opened a joint account with Street funded by 51 checks totaling $88,609.41 written by the woman on the church’s account, the warrant stated.

Street has been charged with theft by receiving stolen property, and Summers, with theft by taking and forgery, according to the Cobb County Sheriff's Office.

The couple was booked into Cobb County Jail on Saturday. Each is being held on a $100,000 bond.
