Backyard Brawl; Kell Home Opener
Sprayberry faces a tough task at Lassiter, while Kell looks for its first win against Etowah.
All three Northeast Cobb high schools are playing football tonight in Northeast Cobb, where only one, Sprayberry, has played so far this season.
Sprayberry (0-1) at Lassiter (1-0)—Lassiter’s offense, run by highly touted junior quarterback Eddie Printz, got all of the preseason acclaim, but its defense made a statement in the season-opening 14-6 win against defending state champion Brookwood in the Corky Kell Classic two weeks ago. The Trojans held Brookwood to six points as Lassiter established itself as a bona fide contender in Region 5-AAAAA and beyond. They’ll be the second consecutive quality opponent for Sprayberry, which fell 41-21 to Hillgrove at home in its season opener. If Lassiter’s offense finds its groove, it could be another long night for the Yellow Jackets.
Etowah (1-0) at Kell (0-1)—Kell had one of the state’s most impressive season-opening losses two weeks ago when the Longhorns lost 7-0 to Gwinnett powerhouse Grayson in the Corky Kell Classic. Etowah, coming off a 49-14 road win over Berkmar, will be another stiff test for the Longhorns, who are looking to establish some offensive playmakers in the absence of graduated running back Brian Randolph, who is now a freshman safety for the Tennessee Volunteers.
Both games start at 7:30.
