9/11 Exhibition at The Art Place-Mountain View

Ten years ago, on an ordinary Tuesday morning, nearly 3,000 lives were lost in the worst terrorist attack ever on American soil.

It was an event that changed the life of every citizen.

Every year on the 9/11 anniversary, we pause to remember the victims. We grieve with neighbors, friends and family of those who died. We honor the heroes of that day who sacrificed to save lives.

Through tragedy, the 9/11 attacks brought together cultures, bridged differences and united citizens of goodwill around the world. In tribute to all of those who were lost and the tens of thousands who rose in service, 9/11 has been federally designated a National Day of Service and Remembrance.

Northeast Cobb Patch has compiled the following list of 9/11 anniversary events happening in and around the community:

The Art Place-Mountain View 9/11 Anniversary Exhibit

The Art Place-Mountain View will host a gallery exhibit of David Batley Photography's 'Towering Views: Imagines Remembering the World Trade Center Ten Years After 9/11.' The exhibition is a special 10th anniversary exhibit of New York City then and now. The exhibit runs from Sept. 8 - 30. The exhibition displays photos from the World Trade Center and other places.

Kincaid Elementary 9/11 Day of Service

For the 9/11 Days of Service event, Hands on America volunteers, many of whom are Northeast Cobb residents, will be planting, laying down pinestraw, and painting the parking lot lines Saturday at Kincaid Elementary School located at 1410 Kincaid Road from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Field of Flags

The Kiwanis Club of Marietta will honor the lives lost in the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, with the at Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park Sept. 10 through 16.

At 8 a.m. on Saturday, citizens will parade 2,977 U.S. flags one mile from to Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park.

At 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, a ceremony will be held on the field. The ceremony will include a presentation of colors, the presentation of a riderless horse, a 21-gun salute, the playing of "Taps" and the reading of the names of the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001.

Moment of Remembrance

The and departments will honor the 9/11 casualties by turning on the sirens of the city's fire trucks and police cars for one minute on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The tribute is part of a national Moment of Remembrance established by the U.S. Senate.

A Musical Tribute

will present a recital at 5 p.m. on Sunday in memory of the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001. The concert will be performed by St. James' director of music and organist Steven Schneider.

A series of prayers will also be held by Reverend Wallace Marsh. A reception will follow the one-hour event.

"The tenth anniversary of 9/11 is something worth observing," Schneider said. "This is a chance for not just our parishioners but for people from all over the area to have a moment to be together and remember."

Service of Re-Membrance

Mt. Zion United Methodist Church will hold a Service of Re-Membrance at 7 p.m. Sunday.

Senator Johnny Isakson will be the guest speaker.

Prayer for America

will lead a Prayer for America during its regular 11 a.m. service.

America Must Not Forget

will recognize firefighters, police officers and military personnel during the 13th annual Festival of Music “America Must Not Forget.”

The concert will be held at the Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre at 7 p.m. Admission is free.

The honor guard of Marietta along with public safety officers will be in attendance.

Wake-Up Call

Mt. Bethel UMC will host the worldwide simulcast "A Wake-up Call for God's People" with Anne Graham Lotz and Joel Rosenberg. The event is free. Contact Debbie Ruth at 770-971-2588 for more information.
